Dance travels from Body to Body: digital humanities, theatre and dance and embodied transmission

#mapping #movement on the #move #bodiestalk #transmission #embodiement #theatre #digitalhumanities #dance

Taking inspiration from this great article entitled “Mapping Movement on the Move: Dance Touring and Digital
Methods
” by Harmony Bench, Kate Elswit (published in Theatre Journal, Volume 68, Number 4, December 2016, pp. 575-596 (Article, there are a lot on interesting lines of inquiry and directions pointed at that are oxygen for thinking and, I found, especially reflecting.

And in this site specific world we are living through. Movement is a hot topic. There will always be an overspill of information, of soma and its articulation as soma-techne from a body to a body. We transfer informations, imaginaries, sensation, from body to body. In situ and virtually.
Is it so? Do we transfer meaning and sensation as we move from screen to screen?

How has your experience been since 2020, or prior. How does a digitalised humanity respond to somatic sensation nurturing in a virtual state? Or at least, including a virtual phase in the process of transferring and creating together?

Cartographic Score – Sign Gesture Fragrance…an online movement dance practice for creative development

I have been experimenting the online thing. I was initially sceptical on how we can do, create, come together online. Then I realised I have been joining nine years online Sadhana practices and I know they have been very enriching experiences and also, gave the opportunity to get to know many people around the world that probably, I would have never got the chance to meet them personally, face to face, body to body.

So, I run a year of beta classes. And to my surprise the challenge I initially thought I would have had to encounter, transformed into a rich and great opportunity. GOing back to the primal architecture of the body, and one of my utmost love: bones.

Bones for me are the architecture of existence. A stone. The primordial stone.

I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to go back offering a training that started from micro-movement and bones, and how together they open to our internal poetic landscapes.

Like the unveiling of a secret internal cartography, this online practice came to life.

This is the course I offer. An online at one’s own pace, weekly class that merges experiential theory and practice stemming from Butoh percepts.

A sign, a gesture and fragrance. To make sure we can fully enjoy our intimate personal and unique embodiement, movement dance research and poetic manifestation.

Classes are mostly on a one 2 one basis or max 3 people per session; this gives me the chance to be present and give all my attention to the process and research.

The aim is to provide a space to release explore and discover a new cartography that can support and be considered the foundation of new creations, even if you are not a dancer or artist. A space to come close to our primal architecture and explore how every micromovement generates and relates to others. To unfold our inner relationality. This, supported also by the use of essential oils, to provide that enriching experience of somatic understanding and exploration.

The course is structured in the following way:

sessions last 1.30h and are held weekly. Some on Zoom, others via video tutorials. You receive a welcome pack that has the programme, costs and initial materials. You receive one email per week containing a work book and diary that will help supporting the log of the knowledge you will generate and your creative process. If will form your own unique cartography.

I will set up a private fb group for participants to share and I will pop in to prompt lines of enquiry and participate to the conversations.

Sessions – every email content – are on a Wednesday between 8 -11am or 8-10,30 pm and can be arranged at a different time, privately.

If you think this process can interest you, I look forwards meeting you! drop an email to receive your Cartographic Welcome Pack here: ambrabutoh@gmail.com

I hope you are all keeping save and in love,

Thank you!

These are one to one dedicated sessions to delve deep into bone movement.

Bones are very important and are access of internal movement structure. In these sessions we will learn and deepen our micro movement knowledge and explore diffusion and expansion. These micro-movements to me are keys that open access to further dance investigations and processes. As we move through the sessions, a unique and personalised score will appear, just like a cartography!

All are welcome.

Cost: 60 euro per month or 20 euro per session

Time: you pick the time between 8 am and 9 pm CET time and give your self a 1.45mins session.

Looking forwards to our sessions!

5th of December “MIDNIGHT STAIRS”: a Butoh evening with performance @Tai Chi Ireland, Dublin

December is here. Whether we indulge in celebrations or not, the year surely feels coming to a rest. Just before leaping into the festive holidays, we will host a Butoh evening.

On the 5th of December, Choko Butoh Dublin Research Group and I, will be guests of  DAO Tai Chi Ireland. The evening is part of furthering the awareness of Butoh as a dance art form and a space for creativity and exploration in Dublin, Ireland.

As an art form, Butoh, is highly accessible. It can be practiced and used for various scopes not only by performers. If you are, the training and body method inherent in Butoh, can enhance your body awareness, aid and support your creative process, challenge you to venture into unknown territories with improvisation and transformations via visual solicitations.

For those that come to Butoh moved by curiosity, it has been proven to offer ways to relax the everyday accumulation of tension and offer a platform that supports the expression of one’s own imagery though movement and stillness. Butoh body method facilitates every type of bodies and explores the infinite possibility of movement and sensation.

If you are in Dublin, I hope you can join us and share with us the intimacy of the space and moving bodies in their narrative and poetic imagery.
